About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Good Samaritan Hospital plays a pivotal role in directing the financial and operational activities of the hospital in alignment with established policies and objectives. This executive position is responsible for overseeing all financial departments, including Accounting, Reimbursement, Managed Care, Health Information, and Utilization Review. The CFO will work closely with the Hospital CEO and maintain business relationships with the Division CFO, COO, and CNO, ensuring that the hospital's financial health is robust and sustainable. In this role, the CFO will lead efforts to analyze and implement strategies for reducing operating costs while simultaneously increasing revenues. This involves a thorough understanding of market trends, financial reports, and operational procedures. The CFO will direct the preparation of internal financial reports, ensuring they accurately reflect the hospital's financial position. Additionally, the timely submission of all required financial data to government and regulatory agencies is a critical responsibility, including payroll tax reports and third-party payor cost reports. The CFO will also be tasked with identifying undesirable trends and potential business opportunities, making informed recommendations for action. Collaborating with the CEO, the CFO will assist in developing both long and short-range operational plans, which may include service demand analyses and productivity assessments. Furthermore, the CFO will oversee the preparation of statistical reports, budgets, and financial reports, ensuring compliance with established policies and accounting procedures. Monitoring financial and economic information to identify trends that may impact business operations is essential, as is communicating financial performance to all stakeholders, including senior administration and facility staff. The CFO will also review contracts and purchase agreements to ensure they align with the hospital's business goals and profitability expectations. This role is integral to maintaining the hospital's financial integrity and supporting its mission to provide excellent medical care to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the financial and departmental activities in accordance with hospital policies and objectives.
  • Manage all financial departments including Accounting, Reimbursement, Managed Care, Health Information, and Utilization Review.
  • Analyze and explore means of reducing hospital operating costs and increasing revenues.
  • Direct the preparation of internal financial reports that reflect the hospital's financial position.
  • Ensure timely submission of all financial data and reports required by government and regulatory agencies.
  • Identify and report undesirable trends and potential business opportunities, making recommendations for action.
  • Assist the CEO in developing long and short-range hospital operations plans.
  • Develop operational and capital budgets supported by the hospital's plans and objectives.
  • Administer general accounting and patient business services in accordance with established policies.
  • Forecast the impact of business decisions on financial results.
  • Monitor financial and economic information to identify trends that may impact operations.
  • Communicate financial operational performance with stakeholders, including senior administration and facility staff.
  • Review denials issues and trends to maximize net reimbursement for the facility.
  • Maintain accuracy of charge master and review contracts for compatibility with business goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in a Hospital Controller, Assistant CFO, or VP of Finance role preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
