About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Rockford Rescue Mission will lead strategic financial planning and ensure the organization's financial stability. This role involves close collaboration with the executive team to provide financial insights that guide the Mission's goals and operations within the non-profit sector. The CFO will oversee the annual budget, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and manage financial reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the annual budget process and assist the Finance Team and Leadership in maintaining budget control.
  • Effectively communicate and present financial information to the CAO and CEO.
  • Represent the organization to financial partners including financial institutions and auditors.
  • Provide oversight for Rockford Rescue Mission finances in accordance with AICPA, ECFA, and GAAP guidelines.
  • Establish credibility for the finance/administration group by providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets.
  • Ensure consistent best practices for internal and external accounting policies and procedures.
  • Direct and execute organizational financial analysis, planning, cash flow modeling, and forecasting.
  • Oversee and lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Monitor investment strategies and policies set by the Finance Committee.
  • Oversee the Mission's dashboard, risk management, and contract management.
  • Develop workers' compensation budgets and confirm the accuracy of WC audit results.
  • Complete payroll and benefits budgets and reconcile payroll issues with HR.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations related to Finance and IT.
  • Evaluate the Finance and IT structure for continual improvement and professional growth opportunities.
  • Review and monitor all Mission insurance needs and executive contracts.
  • Establish systems and controls to verify the integrity of all systems and data.
  • Develop contingency plans for disasters or IT-related catastrophic events.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis, risk management, and forecasting methods.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to non-finance team members.
  • Technology savvy with experience managing IT in a mid-sized organization.
  • Strong management and leadership abilities; ability to coach and develop individuals.
  • Proactive problem solver with a level-headed approach.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • CPA required; experience in a reputable accounting firm and non-profit accounting preferred.
  • At least 8 years of senior financial leadership experience.
  • Experience working with external auditors and compliance oversight.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • A mature Christian with strategic vision and sound technical skills.
