About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of NOLA Public Schools is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Orleans Parish School Board. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the CFO will manage all financial and business affairs, ensuring the organization's financial health and compliance with regulations. This position involves strategic financial planning, budget management, and providing financial advice to the Superintendent and School Board members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop finance organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to aid the Superintendent and Board on financial matters, budgetary issues, and policy decisions.
  • Serve as Ex Officio member of the Orleans School Facilities Foundation, assisting in facilitating tax credit financing for school construction and renovation.
  • Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities, including annual audits and financial reports.
  • Monitor and report on financial status by measuring and analyzing results, providing transparency and accountability.
  • Support charter and district schools' compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Analyze local tax collections and project multi-year fiscal impacts on district funding models.
  • Oversee treasury and investment decisions to maintain healthy fund balance and maximize investment returns.
  • Create and track the adopted annual budget for various funds and prepare periodic budget reviews.
  • Ensure compliant management of the School Facilities Preservation Program and produce annual reporting.
  • Develop and provide oversight for the Annual Consolidated Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Provide monthly financial and operational updates to the Superintendent and School Board members.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to safeguard district assets.
  • Direct and participate in the analysis of laws and regulations affecting financial activities.
  • Provide oversight for year-end audits and work with external auditors to ensure clean financial audits.
  • Develop and improve MUNIS ERP system implementation to enhance financial processes and efficiency.
  • Direct, supervise, and manage a large accounting staff, ensuring they have the necessary tools and guidance.
  • Serve as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet and other committees as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree strongly preferred; minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, financial management, or education finance.
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive relevant experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational leadership skills to align work processes and maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Extensive experience in financial management, budget, accounting, and statistical analysis.
  • State-Federal government finance experience or financial administration of large programs, particularly for K-12 education or higher education.

  • Competitive salary range of $135,000 - $167,300.
