About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the Director of Finance and Facilities for the College of Biological Sciences (CBS) at the University of Minnesota. This key leadership role involves providing strategic direction for financial and facilities matters, ensuring that the college's academic vision is supported by adequate financial resources. The CFO leads the development and implementation of both short- and long-term financial strategies, oversees fiscal administration and budget planning, and represents the college in various university-wide committees. The position requires outstanding financial, analytical, and strategic-budgeting skills, along with executive-level communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of CBS' short- and long-term financial strategies.
  • Collaborate with the CBS dean and senior leadership team to oversee a comprehensive model for administrative data.
  • Foster a workplace environment committed to respect, diversity, inclusivity, and teamwork.
  • Serve as Chief Financial Manager and RRC Contact for CBS, maintaining contact with central administration offices.
  • Work with collegiate leaders on budget and planning processes, including annual budget preparation.
  • Oversee university financial issues including sponsored and non-sponsored projects financial administration.
  • Supervise the CBS Financial Services Team and BioGEN Financial, ensuring effective financial management.
  • Coordinate internal financial audits and ensure resolution of auditor findings.
  • Oversee facilities, space, and capital planning for CBS, determining funding availability for projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible fiscal and management experience, including leading financial strategy development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related area
  • Experience at the University of Minnesota or another large, complex organization.
