About the position

JSM & Associates is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to play a pivotal role in the growth of the company and its subsidiary, JSM Airport Services. This is a hands-on position that requires a skilled professional who will be deeply involved in all aspects of the Accounting Department. The CFO will be responsible for managing the accounting for a portfolio of design projects and service contracts, as well as overseeing the corporate office's financial operations. This role will also include support for Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, and other essential functions within the organization. The CFO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will also provide assistance to other individuals within the organization as needed. The CFO will manage a full-time staff of accounting professionals, ensuring that all financial transactions, including expenses, receipts, revenue invoices, and distributions, are accurately recorded. The position involves preparing comprehensive financial statement reports for various projects and contracts, as well as for the corporate office. The CFO will also be responsible for developing and documenting internal processes and workflows, preparing accounting schedules and reports, and recording journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. The role requires proficiency in payroll processing using ADP and QuickBooks, as well as the ability to conduct financial analysis and provide training to the accounting team and other internal customers. In addition to the essential duties, the CFO will oversee financial reporting, general ledger management, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, project accounting, tax compliance, and business licensing. The position also involves coordinating the annual audit and preparing year-end tax documents such as 1099s and W-2s. The CFO will be expected to produce monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts, ensuring compliance with established procedures and accounting principles throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a full-time staff of accounting professionals.
  • Ensure all expenses, receipts, revenue invoices, distributions, and other transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare all aspects of financial statement reports for a portfolio of design projects and service contracts, and for the corporate office.
  • Provide accounting services/support for various internal functions (e.g., accounts receivable/payable, payroll).
  • Develop and document internal processes and workflows.
  • Prepare accounting schedules and reports.
  • Record and post journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and other actions, as assigned.
  • Distribute monthly financial reports, financial statements, and bank reconciliations, along with supporting documents.
  • Review financial information to ensure compliance with established procedures and accounting principles.
  • Research open accounting issues in a timely manner and recognize potential issues and/or discrepancies.
  • Follow standard policies and procedures to ensure internal and external reporting requirements are consistently met.
  • Review invoice coding and approve to ensure proper allocation of expenses.
  • Maintain and set up Sales Tax account(s) for new projects.
  • Set up new contracts and projects within accounting systems and supporting MS Excel schedules.
  • Prepare and post journal entries from accounting period closes (monthly/quarterly/annual).
  • Prepare various financial analysis, including owner distribution analysis.
  • Provide training to accounting team, service site(s) administrators, and other internal customers.
  • Assist in oversight of other accounting personnel.
  • Prepare year-end 1099's, W-2, NEC.
  • Oversee Financial Reporting and General Ledger, Payroll, A/P, A/R, Project Accounting, Tax and Business Licensing.
  • Coordinate Annual Audit.
  • Report to owner (CEO), Division leaders (President and VP) and lead the accounting department.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of corporate accounting or similar experience as a CFO of a firm or divisional of a larger firm ($70m+ Rev).
  • Preference given to current/active CPA license.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and preparation of financial statement packages (Required).
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Standards Board (FASB) regulations (Required).
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and writing communication skills.
  • Able to establish and meet deadlines.
  • Able to analyze and problem-solve effectively, offering solutions to resolve issues.
  • Experience performing, researching, and analyzing account reconciliations.
  • Effective in a team environment through collaboration and partnership.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, and Power-Point.
  • Experience with NetSuite and QuickBooks accounting software (Required - no exceptions).
  • Knowledge of Project Accounting, Cost Accounting, Percent of Complete Revenue Recognition.
  • Experience with Multiple Accounting or ERP applications (preference to cloud-based).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or Finance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multi-unit accounting (multiple divisions/companies) requiring eliminating entries and consolidation.
