Responsibilities

  • Serve as Chief Financial Officer of the organization and strategic partner to the executive leadership team.
  • Evaluate the organizations financial performance relative to long-term goals, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Provide recommendations for short-term and long-term growth plans.
  • Identify, implement, and enhance systems to deliver critical financial and operational information.
  • Engage and communicate with the board of trustees, private equity partners, CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Establish annual financial objectives aligned with organizational growth plans.
  • Select and manage consultants and auditors.
  • Recruit and hire finance, accounting, and financial aid staff as needed.
  • Participate in strategic decisions and serve as a key member of the executive leadership team.
  • Implement policies and processes, as directed by the executive leadership team.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements, including budget and prior-year comparisons, and provide recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain monthly and annual operating budgets.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and software tools.
  • Identify and analyze business initiatives and new service offerings.
  • Participate in bi-weekly operational tracking meetings with private equity partners.
  • Supervise the accounting department, ensuring functionality of systems and databases.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to lenders, the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, and the board of trustees.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, tax filings, and annual reports.
  • Ensure Title IV regulatory compliance for student financial aid.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on legal compliance.
  • Review and improve month-end close processes, including account reconciliation and accruals.
  • Enhance financial systems, processes, and tools.
  • Oversee capital expenditure reviews and approvals.
  • Manage accounting staff and external audits.
  • Oversee cash flow planning, investments, and institutional loan portfolio management.
  • Evaluate growth opportunities and provide risk assessments.
  • Maintain banking relationships and strategic alliances.
  • Use forward-looking analyses to inform organizational plans and budgets.
  • Represent the company to financial partners, auditors, and regulators.
  • Stay updated on audit best practices, laws, and regulations impacting operations.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff, manage work allocation, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Oversee cash management and approve large payables and manage tax distributions to investors.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA Required
  • Background in Big 4 Public Accounting
  • Minimum 6 years experience as a CFO
  • 14+ Years total accounting or finance experience with at least 2 years with a proprietary, post-secondary education company
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and education industry compliance
  • Experience with campus management systems preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills
  • Proven experience with audits, internal controls, and compliance.
