About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee all financial operations of a leading Minnesota-based community bank with over $1 billion in assets. This strategic leadership role is responsible for ensuring the bank's financial sustainability and profitability while providing direction for growth and compliance with financial regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the financial operations of the bank, including accounting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and regulatory reporting.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the bank's overall business objectives to ensure long-term financial sustainability and profitability.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to guide strategic planning and business development efforts.
  • Oversee capital management, liquidity, and asset/liability management to maintain a strong financial position.
  • Ensure the bank's compliance with all applicable financial regulations, including oversight of audits, regulatory exams, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial insights and reports to the Board of Directors, executive management, and other stakeholders to support decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Lead the finance team by promoting best practices, fostering a culture of accountability, and driving continuous improvement in financial processes and systems.
  • Evaluate and manage risks, including interest rate risk, credit risk, and market risk, to protect the bank's financial health.
  • Oversee mergers, acquisitions, and other financial transactions as necessary to support growth initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in financial regulations, industry trends, and emerging technologies to ensure the bank remains competitive and compliant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in the banking or financial services industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking regulations, financial management, and risk management practices.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, financial forecasting, and managing a high-performing finance team.
  • Ability to manage complex financial operations in a highly regulated environment.
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
