About the position

As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of the organization. This position involves providing strategic direction, ensuring financial health, and driving innovative financial solutions that align with the YMCA's mission and goals. The CFO will collaborate closely with the CEO and senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies, oversee financial operations, and foster relationships across branches to support effective financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement forward-thinking financial strategies in collaboration with the CEO and Senior Team.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and reporting with precision and insight.
  • Build strong relationships with branch leaders, providing financial support and guidance.
  • Work with the development team to secure funding and increase revenue from fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and policies, maintaining high standards of financial integrity.
  • Oversee liquidity to maintain appropriate levels of operating reserves.
  • Mentor and inspire the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Present clear financial reports to the Board of Directors and senior leadership.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, financial institutions, and stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks to protect the organization.
  • Partner with the CEO on strategic growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • At least 10 years of progressive financial management experience, including 5 years in a senior role in an organization of $50M or more.
  • Experience in nonprofit financial management, ideally within the YMCA or similar organizations.
  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems.
  • A passion for innovative financial tools and trends.
  • High integrity and a strong commitment to the YMCA's mission and values.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with real-estate management in the DMV area.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising strategies.
