About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Aspen Valley Hospital is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the organization's financial health and strategic direction. The CFO will manage all financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices. This position requires a deep understanding of healthcare financial management, as the CFO will direct treasury functions, audit processes, and reimbursement practices. The CFO will also establish a robust financial reporting system to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure timely and accurate financial information is available to stakeholders. In addition to managing the financial operations, the CFO will oversee the revenue cycle processes, which includes managing directors, staff, and contractors involved in these processes. The role involves negotiating and managing payer contracts, ensuring compliance with governmental payer requirements, and maintaining operational budgets. The CFO will regularly report on financial performance, including revenues, profits, losses, and cash flow, to the executive leadership team. The CFO will also be responsible for overseeing investment activities and assisting the CEO in managing subsidiary organizations. This role requires the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures that significantly impact the organization, as well as the development of short- and long-term financial strategies. The CFO will lead and direct subordinate managers and directors across various departments, ensuring alignment with the hospital's financial goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organization's overall financial plans, reimbursement practices, policies, and accounting functions.
  • Direct treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, and accounting activities for the organization.
  • Establish financial reporting systems with controls and standards to safeguard organization assets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial information is available to stakeholders.
  • Develop accounting and statistical data for financial analysis.
  • Plan, organize, and direct all functions related to financial management, budgeting, and accounting.
  • Oversee the organization's revenue cycle processes, managing directors, staff, and contractors.
  • Manage payer contracts and ensure compliance with governmental payer requirements.
  • Oversee operations of accounting, tax, and financial reporting functions to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Establish and maintain operating budgets, regularly reporting on actual or forecasted revenues, profits or losses, and cash flow.
  • Oversee investment activity of AVH and its entities, including the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation.
  • Assist the CEO and other executives in overseeing subsidiary organizations to assure their performance and investment value.
  • Establish and implement policies, practices, and procedures that significantly impact the organization.
  • Develop the organization's short- and long-term strategies and evaluate past financial performance.
  • Lead and direct the work of subordinate managers and directors of various departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP).
  • At least ten years of experience in healthcare financial management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
  • Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA) preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC preferred.
