About the position

The Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO) at Walnut Hill School for the Arts is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial and operational aspects of the school. This position requires strategic thinking and leadership to ensure fiscal responsibility, transparency, and effective financial planning. The CFOO will manage various departments including Human Resources, IT, Facilities, and Risk Management, while also coordinating capital projects and supporting the school's mission and diversity initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of School and the Board of Trustees in developing school policies and procedures.
  • Engage in cooperative decision-making with the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
  • Serve as liaison to various Board committees and provide required reporting.
  • Oversee and provide leadership to the Business Office, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Facilities, Reception, and School Store.
  • Promote a customer service-oriented environment and provide vision and training within the department.
  • Actively contribute to the School's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) initiatives.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies consistent with the School's fiscal policy.
  • Manage the financial operation including endowment, investments, and budget management.
  • Support the Head of School and Finance Committee in setting tuition for the following year.
  • Oversee the risk management program and collaborate with legal counsel and insurance brokers.
  • Maintain the Endowment Fund investment and reporting.
  • Create new revenue opportunities consistent with the strategic plan.
  • Pursue alternate sources of financing with state and federal agencies.

Requirements

  • M.B.A., M.Ed., CPA or related advanced degree required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in financial management required.
  • Experience at a non-profit organization, higher education, and/or independent school preferred.
  • Significant experience working with a Board of Trustees or Directors preferred.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving skills related to financial and operational resources.
  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to provide leadership and mentorship.
  • In-depth understanding of key financial controls and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Walnut Hill's mission and core values.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with the team.
  • Strong leadership ability and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with technology and cloud-based computing systems.
