About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Oakton College is responsible for providing leadership and vision for the use of information technology to support the College's mission. This role oversees the Information Technology Division, which includes application development, network services, IT security, and user support services. The CIO is tasked with developing technology strategies, ensuring the security of information systems, and fostering a high-performance work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for assessing operational and technology needs and formulating strategies for innovative technology solutions.
  • Oversee IT functions including media and web services, application services, networking, and security.
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive technology plan to support academic and administrative strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate and advance campus technology needs and innovations.
  • Partner with campus leadership to enhance teaching and learning processes through technology.
  • Determine procedures and technologies to secure sensitive information and mitigate risks.
  • Create an environment ensuring the integrity of institutional information, including disaster recovery procedures.
  • Foster a high-performance work environment focused on quality service delivery.
  • Recommend for hire, supervise, and evaluate staff necessary for technology operations.
  • Prepare and implement operating and capital budgets, ensuring compliance with fiscal policies.
  • Manage relationships with IT vendors and participate in contract negotiations.
  • Lead systemic review and evaluation of the Office of Information Technology functional areas.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience with systems and departments, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in employee training and development.
  • Experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and project management.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple complex assignments.
  • Three years of administrative experience supervising exempt professional staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education or closely related management experience.
  • Experience in developing operational systems and writing guidelines.
