About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Oregon Department of Energy is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing information technology strategies that align with statewide objectives. This role involves collaboration within the agency to enhance efficiency, customer satisfaction, and the effective delivery of IT resources. The CIO will oversee the agency's technology infrastructure, ensuring it is modern, reliable, and accessible, while also supporting the agency's educational mission through data management and information sharing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Chief Information Officer for the agency.
  • Plan and organize short-term and long-range IT strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate within the agency to advance objectives related to efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee the agency's technology infrastructure, including network and system administration.
  • Manage application development, database solutions, and information security efforts.
  • Support the agency's educational mission by providing tools for data gathering and sharing.
  • Coordinate enterprise technology efforts with Enterprise Information Services.

Requirements

  • Six years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience.
  • Three years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT policies, practices, and processes related to application development and data security.
  • Experience in managing and developing technical and project management staff.
  • Strong customer service orientation and responsiveness to customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of effective project management skills and managing projects with large data sets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in strategic planning and managing change with varied resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of IT vendor management, purchasing, and asset management procedures.
  • Experience in developing technology consistent with universal accessibility.
