About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for directing the operations of the Information Technology section within the U.S. House of Representatives. This role ensures that the information and communications systems meet the needs of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) staff and the House community. The CIO oversees project management, staffing, budgeting, and compliance with security policies, while also serving as a senior liaison with Members of Congress and managing personnel and technology-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the operations of the Information Technology section to meet the needs of SAA staff and House community.
  • Monitors projects, initiatives, and day-to-day functions of the division.
  • Develops the division's staffing plan and budget.
  • Plans and secures approval for long-term goals and operational needs.
  • Provides management and supervision of division managers and staff.
  • Manages personnel actions, performance plans, and employee conflicts.
  • Oversees new and ongoing projects, including implementation and quality controls.
  • Manages all aspects of information systems, including maintenance and upgrades.
  • Approves correspondence related to technology matters from the Sergeant at Arms.
  • Serves as a liaison with Members of Congress for technology issues.
  • Ensures compliance with House information systems security policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Extensive supervisory/management experience.
  • Five years of experience in professional executive-level roles.
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislative environment and operations of the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
