About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the American Mathematical Society (AMS) is a strategic partner and member of the executive leadership team, responsible for shaping and realizing the Society's vision through effective leadership of the Information Services and Information Technology (IS/IT) units. The CIO will enhance the organization's digital capabilities, ensuring the security of technology infrastructure while improving the Society's IS/IT systems to support its mission and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Information Services and Information Technology units.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the Society's IS/IT infrastructure.
  • Direct the planning and implementation of enterprise computing systems.
  • Ensure the security of the AMS's technology infrastructure.
  • Partner in the Society's strategic planning and implementation processes.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies and practices.
  • Manage, support, and ensure the ongoing professional development of the Directors of IS and IT.
  • Lead the development of the computing annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal computing resources and external entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or extensive experience in IS/IT environments.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in IS/IT management, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with the mathematics community and its technological needs.
  • Understanding of scholarly communication and professional membership societies.
  • Considerable knowledge of business processes, management, budgeting, and operations.
  • Proven experience in computing planning, organization, and development.
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles.
