About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Newport News Nuclear BWXT - Los Alamos, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the corporate-wide information technology strategy and ensuring the secure and efficient operation of all IT functions. This role involves evaluating technology feasibility studies, maintaining compliance with safety and security regulations, and ensuring the confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). The CIO will lead the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures, manage escalations, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a company-wide vision, strategy, and architecture for information technology.
  • Direct the establishment and implementation of IT policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and direction, handle escalations of difficult problems, and monitor, analyze, and report trends.
  • Identify, develop, and implement information programs to reduce information and IT risks.
  • Respond to incidents and establish appropriate standards and controls.
  • Interpret new legislation, regulations, executive orders, and agreements.
  • Remain current with new federal/state regulations and implement necessary changes.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree combined with at least 23 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 8 years in management.
  • Advanced to expert level knowledge of information security architecture and technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues concisely.
  • Demonstrated project management, organization, and facilitation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience specific to DOE contract execution is highly preferred.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders and respond quickly to their needs.
  • Experience in training and mentoring staff.
