About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) is a pivotal role responsible for developing and overseeing enterprise information technologies, applications, and services that meet the highest user expectations. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, administrative experience, and strong communication and leadership skills. The CIO will work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders to promote the District's commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice within the educational environment. The ideal candidate will support the vision of providing innovative, integrated, secure, and reliable technology and data services that enhance educational outcomes for all students. In this role, the CIO will lead and direct the enterprise information technology and services for WISD, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission statement. The responsibilities include planning, developing, and implementing a cohesive and cost-effective information technology strategic plan and actionable roadmap. The CIO will also ensure that the work of the Technology and Data Services Department is integrated with the enterprise's strategic planning process, collaborating with local district superintendents and IT directors to ensure equitable distribution of services and resources. The CIO will be responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate IT security and stability for all technology and data systems, ensuring compliance with federal regulations such as HIPAA and FERPA. Additionally, the CIO will manage the agency's operating and capital funding plans, participate in statewide initiatives, and represent WISD in IT-related policy discussions. The role requires effective communication, crisis management, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities while fostering collaboration among diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
  • Examines how the position impacts educational inequities in student achievement outcomes.
  • Engages in reflection and ongoing learning on critical concepts identified in the Washtenaw ISD Educational Equity Policy.
  • Leads/directs enterprise information technology and services for WISD in alignment with the mission statement.
  • Advances the use of technology in instructional practice for all students.
  • Plans, develops, and implements a cohesive, collaborative, secure, and cost-effective information technology strategic plan.
  • Ensures integration of the Technology and Data Services Department with the enterprise's strategic planning process.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to ensure alignment with WISD's mission and vision.
  • Collaborates with local district superintendents and IT directors on equitable distribution of services and resources.
  • Develops an understanding of local districts' infrastructure and technology services to foster collaboration.
  • Fosters effective collaborations between districts, counties, and statewide organizations.
  • Provides effective communication with clear articulation of ideas to staff and local districts.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate IT security and stability for all technology and data systems.
  • Develops and manages agency operating and capital funding plans to ensure cost-effectiveness and compliance.
  • Develops and implements refinements of models based on stakeholder benefits, risks, and requirements.
  • Serves on enterprise planning and policymaking committees; drives development of technology standards and governance processes.
  • Participates in statewide initiatives and represents WISD in IT-related discussions.
  • Manages crisis or stressful situations effectively, providing clear thinking and stable presence.
  • Directs the activities of REMC 16.
  • Responsible for other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Evaluates and supervises personnel related to technology services and data management.
  • Organizes and implements program objectives.
  • Accepts and delegates responsibility while recognizing the need for teamwork.
  • Respects and listens to diverse opinions regarding task accomplishment and project execution.
  • Effectively manages multiple tasks and demonstrates effective time management skills.
