About the position

The Chief Information Officer oversees the Information Technology Division of the University. This position provides technology vision and leadership for developing and implementing Information Technology initiatives. This individual is responsible for planning and facilitating the execution of the overall Information Technology vision, goals, and initiatives that support the mission of the University. Additionally, the Chief Information Officer cultivates relationships between the IT Division with both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the University Administration, work to define the University Information Technology vision; then select, acquire, develop, install, maintain, and support Information Technology functions for the University.
  • Responsible for understanding, providing oversight, and representing Information Technology and its communication systems and projects; including voice, data, imaging systems, info security, classroom technology, CRM, IT Infrastructure, ERP, ITIL Framework, ITSM, and Helpdesk Support.
  • Ensure that new technology initiatives are in the best interests of the University and align with the University's mission statement and goals.
  • Monitor and report the performance of the Information Technology infrastructure, including actual vs. expected results, budget monitoring, and project assessment.
  • Perform ongoing assessment of the Information Technology capabilities and performance of employees and contractors on behalf of entities at the University.
  • Collaborate closely with the Associate Vice President and divisional leadership to direct the operation and staffing of the University Information Technology Division.
  • Build relationships between University Information Technology resources with both internal and external stakeholders and entities.
  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and management of Information Technology policy for the University.
  • In collaboration with University General Counsel, oversee the negotiation of Information Technology contracts.
  • Provide informed guidance for compliance with the government regulations and internal policies.
  • Act as an advocate and liaison for the Information Technology Division via written and in-person communications with the University's administration, faculty, staff, and students, especially concerning new initiatives and situations that will affect end users.
  • Develop employees under oversight and enact succession planning and contingencies.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the University Administration concerning Information Technology and industry trends.
  • Serve as a member of the President's External Cabinet to assist in planning, policy-making, and executive leadership of the University.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Provost or President.

Requirements

  • Must be a Christian who is an active member of a church that holds Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior, and who holds solely the Old Testament and the New Testament as sacred Scriptures.
  • Must hold a master's degree in a related field; terminal degree preferred.
  • Five to ten years of experience in IT management.
  • Must have an understanding of the mission and goals of Dallas Baptist University.
  • Must be able to cast a vision for the technology needs of the University and then implement the appropriate steps toward that vision.
  • Must have demonstrated management and leadership skills and an ability to plan, develop, and implement technology goals.
  • Must have adequate knowledge, talent, and skill necessary to perform duties.
