About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a strategic leadership role responsible for transforming IT and digital services within the organization. The CIO will drive innovation and support cutting-edge research, ensuring effective delivery of services across RBG Kew's diverse functions as a leading scientific organization and visitor attraction. This position plays a crucial role in strengthening IT infrastructure, particularly in data management, AI, and emerging technologies, while also acting as a key member of the Executive Board to align IT strategy with the organization's broader goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the IT Directorate at RBG Kew, providing strategic leadership for IT and digital services.
  • Strengthen the IT infrastructure and services that support Kew Science, focusing on data management, AI, and emerging technologies.
  • Work closely with scientific teams to empower world-class research through advanced digital solutions.
  • Oversee the delivery of Kew's IT strategy and contribute to the Executive Board's goals as outlined in the Manifesto for Change 2021-2030.
  • Act as the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), managing information frameworks, data security, and the responsible use of innovative technologies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role, preferably within a research or scientific organization.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, data management, and emerging technologies such as AI.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive digital transformation and innovation in a complex organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the public sector or with environmental organizations.
  • Familiarity with biodiversity and environmental challenges.
  • Knowledge of information management frameworks and data security best practices.
