About the position

Western New England University (WNE) is seeking an experienced Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead and oversee the university's IT, cyber-security, technology infrastructure, and support services. The CIO will be responsible for developing and implementing IT policies and strategic plans, ensuring compliance with security measures, and fostering collaboration within the university community. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and an understanding of the academic environment, as the CIO will serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and the President's Cabinet.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, leadership, and direction for the Office of Information Technology.
  • Implement an integrated structure for academic, research, and administrative computing.
  • Oversee IT services including security, systems, application development, instructional media, networking, telecommunications, and client services.
  • Collaborate with technology professionals and advisory groups for strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with WNE Systems and relevant organizations.
  • Develop IT policies and strategies aligned with the university's goals.
  • Manage annual budgets and IT priorities with the Vice President for Finance and Administration.
  • Lead security measures for hardware, software, and networks.
  • Conduct competitive analysis on technology products and services.
  • Provide data and reports to executive management on technology operations.
  • Manage vendor contracts and purchases, and solve complex technology issues.
  • Exercise supervisory authority and manage performance for technical and support staff.
  • Represent the university on key technology initiatives and committees.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred or bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of leadership experience in IT.
  • Proven leadership experience in the information technology field, preferably in higher education.
  • Effective supervision and motivational leadership skills.
  • Experience in engagement and collaboration with the campus community.
  • History of outstanding customer service.
  • Awareness of cultural issues and sensitivity to diverse needs.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making.
  • Experience in developing long-term goals, strategic plans, and operational policies.
