About the position

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Florida Gulf Coast University is a senior-level IT leadership role responsible for overseeing the enterprise cybersecurity program. This position provides strategic leadership in IT governance, risk management, and the cross-functional management of information and technology security across the organization. The CISO will develop and implement a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the cybersecurity function across the organization to ensure high-quality information security management.
  • Develop the cybersecurity strategy and operating model in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Establish a cybersecurity governance framework and create a cybersecurity steering committee.
  • Collaborate with procurement to integrate cybersecurity requirements into contracts.
  • Develop and update policies and procedures to safeguard information assets.
  • Oversee risk evaluation and compliance management processes.
  • Advise on the organization's cyber risk posture and mandatory application of controls.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Manage resources in alignment with the IT workforce plan and support budgeting for cybersecurity.
  • Develop a cybersecurity vision and strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Manage and contain cybersecurity incidents to protect corporate IT assets.
  • Manage an effective cybersecurity organization, including hiring and staff development.
  • Lead the development of IT policies and procedures for information security governance.
  • Liaise with external agencies to maintain a strong security posture.
  • Stay current with developments in cybersecurity and technology.

Requirements

  • Fourteen years of professional, full-time experience in IT or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree and ten years of experience.
  • Five years of leadership responsibility, including strategy and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing key stakeholders across the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
  • IT leadership and management experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in Infrastructure and Operations.
  • Experience building a security program.
  • Experience in risk and compliance management.
