About the position

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) is responsible for leading and managing the Information Security Office. This role involves providing policy guidance and direction for enterprise-wide information security programs, ensuring the security and privacy of CalSTRS information assets, and serving as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Teachers Retirement Board.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management direction to the Information Security Office.
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities related to enterprise-wide information security programs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines for information security management.
  • Ensure the security, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and privacy of information assets.
  • Serve as an expert policy advisor to the CEO, Executive Staff, and the Teachers Retirement Board.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in information security management and leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of information security frameworks and compliance standards.
  • Experience in developing and implementing security policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with artificial intelligence tools in security management.
  • Familiarity with risk management and audit processes.
