About the position

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at CalSTRS is responsible for leading and managing the Information Security Office, providing policy guidance, and ensuring the security and integrity of the organization's information assets. The CISO will oversee various enterprise-wide information security programs, develop and implement security policies, and serve as an expert advisor to executive leadership and the Teachers' Retirement Board.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management direction to the Information Security Office.
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities related to information security programs including Defense & Monitoring, Audits & eDiscovery, Governance & Compliance, Security Awareness, Architecture & Data, and Investigations & Response.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines for information security management.
  • Ensure the security, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and privacy of CalSTRS information assets.
  • Serve as an expert policy advisor to the CEO, Executive Staff, and the Teachers' Retirement Board regarding information security matters.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience overseeing and managing an Information Security Office program.
  • Senior leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse range of staff.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain enterprise policies and standards.
  • Experience managing operating budgets and financial resources.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex information security strategies to stakeholders.
