About the position

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is responsible for overseeing the Information Security Section within the Department of Corrections. This role involves leading the agency's IT security program, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and protecting agency data. The CISO will also serve as the HIPAA Security Officer, implementing policies to safeguard electronic personal health information (ePHI) and managing incident response efforts to mitigate security breaches.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead the Information Security Section.
  • Develop and administer IT security policies and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with mandates from the state's Division of Enterprise Technology and federal regulations.
  • Act as the agency's HIPAA Security Officer.
  • Conduct audits and remediation of existing systems.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate internal and external threats, vulnerabilities, and risks.
  • Ensure robust monitoring, timely detection, containment, and incident response to security breaches.

Requirements

  • Experience developing and implementing IT security standards, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Experience supervising and managing employees, including hiring, directing work, and evaluating performance.
  • Experience coordinating and managing an IT Incident Response Team.

  • Experience auditing and evaluating IT security compliance procedures.
  • Experience conducting IT security reviews and vulnerability assessments.
  • Experience investigating and reporting on IT security breaches and violations.
  • Experience developing and implementing security policies related to HIPAA.
