About the position

The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) at the Center for Rural Affairs is a newly created role aimed at supporting the organization's growth in community-based lending. This position is critical for expanding lending initiatives, including larger small business loans, multi-family housing loans, and lending to low-income and historically excluded populations. The CLO will define the vision for loan production and service objectives, oversee compliance with regulations, and develop strategies for new lending areas such as solar and clean energy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a network of key community-based partners for solar, clean energy, food systems, small businesses, and homeownership in Nebraska.
  • Develop new areas of lending in food systems, climate, and housing, including loan product development and partnership development.
  • Review loans to ensure compliance with underwriting, product, and program policies and procedures.
  • Support partnership development, marketing products, lead generation, and client attraction.
  • Work with borrowers on loan packages over $200,000, analyzing and verifying creditworthiness.
  • Make lending programs available to low- and moderate-income residents throughout Nebraska.
  • Establish and achieve clear, measurable performance goals linked to lending objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to incorporate DEI principles into processes and programming.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of experience in lending or comparable experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret financial information in loan proposals.
  • Strong prospecting, networking, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and keeping tasks organized.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to convey leadership values.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in clean energy or related fields.
  • Experience building new programs.
  • Knowledge of community-based lending practices.
