About the position

The Managing Director I of Marketing serves as the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Nelnet Business Services, overseeing all marketing functions within the division. This strategic role is part of the senior management team and collaborates with other marketing and communication leaders across the enterprise. The CMO is responsible for executing the marketing vision, driving brand identity, demand generation, and customer success initiatives, while leading a full-stack marketing team to achieve both short- and long-term business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a high-performance B2B2C Marketing Team across various marketing functions.
  • Coach team members to maximize their effectiveness with specific goals and measurable KPIs.
  • Design and scale a marketing program to meet the demands of a multi-million-dollar business.
  • Guide the development of integrated marketing plans by market and vertical.
  • Partner with Nelnet's corporate marketing and communications team to leverage resources.
  • Collaborate with sales and product leaders to meet pipeline and revenue goals.
  • Inspire a customer-first mindset leveraging data analytics and marketing technology.
  • Operate a robust marketing technology stack and prioritize projects for optimization.
  • Manage a seven-figure budget and coach marketing leaders on effective allocation.
  • Align leaders around brand and cross-marketing objectives to achieve business goals.
  • Measure and report on marketing and engagement goals, KPIs, and impact.
  • Stay updated on current marketing practices and implement test-and-learn initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (marketing or business preferred).
  • 15+ years in marketing, with a minimum of 5 years at a senior leader level.
  • Strong people leadership experience focused on professional development.
  • B2B, payments, and SaaS experience preferred.
  • Experience managing diverse teams across full-stack marketing and communications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CRM, marketing automation, event management, project management, community, web analytics, artificial intelligence, and creative platforms.
