About the position

The Chief Mechanical Engineer at Velocity Architecture & Engineering DPC, part of the BRAVO Group, is responsible for overseeing all phases of mechanical design and construction administration. This role requires a strong background in various building types and the ability to lead a team of engineers while ensuring high-quality technical excellence and compliance with industry standards. The position emphasizes client-focused service and effective communication across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, coordinate, and oversee the engineering production activities for the mechanical engineering department.
  • Make sound decisions and recommendations based on good engineering practice.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with senior-level management within the company, skilled in dispute resolution and negotiation of critical issues.
  • Demonstrate experienced judgment in anticipating and solving operational challenges, identifying objectives, and developing standards for engineering activities.
  • Perform management and leadership responsibilities associated with the Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Interpret, coordinate, and implement technical assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and clients, working independently on technical matters.
  • Oversee a team of engineers and coordinate the department's efforts and personnel.
  • Lead the overall design for projects as a Senior Engineer on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist in business development activities and manage complex mechanical projects.
  • Prepare proposals in concert with senior leadership and oversee technical reports for internal and external purposes.
  • Coordinate the department to ensure all deliverables meet project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Stay current on the latest codes and technologies associated with the mechanical discipline.
  • Ensure compliance with standards, established design practices, and applicable codes, achieving technical excellence.
  • Review the department's work product to ensure quality and identify training needs for novice engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in New York.
  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience within a consulting or design-build firm.
  • Experience with New York City public agencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing a Mechanical Engineering Department is strongly preferred; experience managing an MEP department will also be considered.
  • Experience with the New York School Construction Authority.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD based design projects.
  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills.
