About the position

The Chief Nurse for Ambulatory Care at the US Veterans Health Administration is responsible for overseeing nursing practices and managing staffing resources within the Ambulatory Care clinical settings. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality nursing care to Veteran patients across multiple campuses and clinics, while also aligning operations with evidence-based practices and regulatory compliance. The Chief Nurse collaborates with key leaders to develop strategic goals that enhance patient care and staff satisfaction, reporting directly to the Deputy ADPCS.

Responsibilities

• Ensure appropriate nursing practice in the delivery of care to Veteran patients.
• Manage staffing resources as a first or second line supervisor within Ambulatory Care settings.
• Oversee clinical practice for Contract Outpatient Clinics and CBOC Specialty Clinics.
• Align programmatic operations with evidence-based procedures and processes.
• Collaborate with Service Chiefs and other leaders to develop goals supporting the strategic plan.
• Ensure positive clinical and administrative outcomes.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license from any US State or territory.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional nursing experience, including specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III.
• 4 years of Nurse Management experience preferred, especially in VHA Primary Care settings.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in Acute Care settings.
• Prior experience in VHA Primary Care Nurse Management.
