The Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) is a pivotal member of the Nursing and Health Informatics leadership team at Cook County Health (CCH). This role is integral to strategic planning, organizational assessment, and program development within the health system. The CNIO is tasked with leveraging technical and analytical expertise from various disciplines to enhance coordination, communication, and the standardization of best practices across CCH. This position leads critical initiatives aimed at improving clinical efficiencies and operational quality outcomes. By combining clinical and technical knowledge with informatics expertise, the CNIO is responsible for developing innovative solutions that optimize both clinical and operational outcomes. As a catalyst for integrating nursing informatics with other professional disciplines, the CNIO collaborates across functional areas to achieve patient-centered and organizational goals. This role involves providing leadership, consultation, and coordination for transforming patient care processes and outcomes, ensuring that services are aligned with the principles of patient-centered care across the continuum. The CNIO will also engage in collective bargaining, management of staff, and the development of policies and procedures that support the evolving use of new technologies in nursing practice. The CNIO will utilize their clinical practice knowledge to align people, processes, and technology, supporting evidence-based information systems that facilitate efficient and effective nursing care. They will evaluate the existing informatics infrastructure, recommend improvements, and lead the acquisition of data to drive enhancements in business processes, care delivery, and patient safety. Additionally, the CNIO will serve as a strategic liaison for health IT efforts, ensuring that the needs of nursing and patient care teams are represented and addressed.
