About the position

The Chief of Defense Staff to the Affected Nation at NATO-JWC is a critical role responsible for providing subject matter expertise in defense matters to support NATO's Joint Warfare Center's high-priority exercises. This position involves developing and delivering realistic military scenarios and ensuring that training audiences are effectively represented in accordance with the Affected Nation's military policies. The role requires coordination of military operations and the generation of exercise materials that challenge and prepare participants for realistic military engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in all Defense matters to represent the Affected Nation's military position to the training audience.
  • Offer expert advice on the operational and strategic use of the Affected Nation's military.
  • Ensure the training audience experiences a realistic joint military posture of the Affected Nation.
  • Coordinate military operational matters within the Affected Nation and EXCON team.
  • Develop a basic Concept of Operations for the use of the Affected Nation's military assets in conflict situations.
  • Assist training audiences with initial planning stages by providing expertise and scenario representation.
  • Analyze training audience plans and documentation and their impacts on Affected Nation Defense.
  • Generate appropriate exercise material to provide a challenging problem set to the training audience.
  • Stay familiar with the latest relevant NATO publications.
  • Coordinate military green picture.

Requirements

  • A University/Bachelor's Degree or Staff College with evidence of continuing professional education throughout career.
  • Three (3) years of working experience within the last 10 years at a senior staff level in a strategic or operational national, international, or NATO headquarters.
  • Experience in briefing senior leaders/decision makers at the governance level in a National or Multinational environment.
  • Achieved OF-6 Rank during Military career.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English as defined in STANAG 6001 (SLP 3333 - Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing).
  • Must possess an active NATO or U.S. SECRET or higher security clearance.
