About the position

The Chief of Police for the City of Clarksville is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the Police Department's operations, resources, and activities. This position involves strategic planning, budget management, community relations, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The Chief will manage senior-level managers, implement directives from the Mayor and City Council, and develop departmental goals to enhance public safety and community trust.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise senior-level managers, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff training.
  • Prepare and administer the department's budget, including cost estimates and justifications for budget items.
  • Direct the implementation of internal operations for the department, including planning, coordinating, and evaluating programs and processes.
  • Review, analyze, and approve various department reports.
  • Coordinate activities with local, State, and Federal agencies and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain community relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Management, or a related field.
  • Ten (10) years of law enforcement experience, including two (2) years as a Captain or higher rank.
  • Valid driver's license and Tennessee Police Officer Certification.
