About the position

The Chief of Staff for Airport Operations at United Airlines plays a pivotal role in overseeing the coordination of critical meetings and ensuring that operational divisions meet key objectives. This position serves as a strategic partner to the Senior Vice President of Airport Hubs and NOC, facilitating communication and collaboration across the organization to drive the execution of strategic initiatives and enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee coordination of and attendance at critical meetings for Airport Operations.
  • Ensure operations divisions are tracking key objectives and goals.
  • Align Airport Operations leaders around strategic objectives.
  • Serve as a liaison for the organization in managing meetings and coordinating event agendas.
  • Build and maintain high-quality materials for the Board of Directors.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the SVP and direct reports, resolving emerging issues.
  • Drive a cohesive approach to meet organizational priorities.
  • Support and collaborate on critical initiatives aligned with United's objectives.
  • Identify barriers to operational efficiency and enable integration across the organization.
  • Provide ownership over ad-hoc analysis of operations performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or Operations.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in an operational function leading large scale projects.
  • 2+ years of experience with project management.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience.
  • Strong data analytics and storytelling ability.
  • Solid understanding of employee relations and drivers of employee engagement.
  • General understanding of current operational initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong strategic thinking capability.
  • Excellent consultative, mentoring, collaboration, and influencing skills.
  • Strong discernment and understanding of the business.
  • Ability to drive clarity from ambiguity and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Analytical problem solver with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels in an organization.
  • Validated ability to evaluate and interpret presentations and Excel models.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Prior experience in Airport Operations, Technical Operations, Network Operations, Corporate Safety, or Contact Centers.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting operations data.
  • Familiarity with operational definitions and data sources for key performance metrics.
