About the position

The Chief of Staff, Alumni Engagement at UCLA Alumni Affairs is a leadership role responsible for overseeing various alumni engagement programs and initiatives. This position requires a collaborative partner and strong manager to enhance strategies for volunteer and alumni-based programs, ensuring impactful engagement with UCLA's 660,000 alumni. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor to achieve program goals, manage resources, and develop policies that support alumni relations and fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide staff and program oversight for Alumni Communities & Engagement Pathways, Professional Programs & Services, Diversity Programs & Initiatives, Affinity Networks & Leadership Development, and Alumni Career Engagement teams.
  • Lead teams to implement and enhance strategies for volunteer and alumni-based programs.
  • Develop strategies and policies to achieve program objectives and manage resources effectively.
  • Translate constituent needs into customized programs that enhance alumni relations.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships to support UCLA's mission and fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years of professional experience in alumni engagement, program management, strategic planning, or related fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of UCLA's strategic plans, vision, goals, and achievements in Alumni Affairs.
  • Advanced knowledge of current affairs in higher education and the ability to understand the changing landscape.
  • Thorough knowledge of alumni and key constituencies, with skills to create and implement innovative programs.
  • Strong supervisory skills to hire, train, oversee, and evaluate staff, ensuring high-quality work within time and budget constraints.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to advocate for and represent UCLA and Alumni Affairs effectively.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and political acumen skills.
  • Skills to create and implement strategic communications and marketing plans.
  • Knowledge of market research and current marketing trends, including digital strategies.
  • Ability to serve different audiences and build consensus among team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and experience with web and new media technology.
  • Mature judgment and integrity, with skills to handle sensitive matters discreetly.
