About the position

The Chief of Staff, Alumni Engagement at UCLA Alumni Affairs is a leadership role responsible for overseeing various teams focused on alumni engagement and program management. This position involves developing and implementing strategies to enhance alumni relations and engagement, ensuring alignment with the university's mission and goals. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor to manage resources effectively and drive impactful programs that foster a strong connection with UCLA's 660,000 alumni.

Responsibilities

  • Provide staff and program oversight for Alumni Communities & Engagement Pathways, Professional Programs & Services, Diversity Programs & Initiatives, Affinity Networks & Leadership Development, and Alumni Career Engagement teams.
  • Lead teams to implement and enhance strategies for volunteer and alumni-based programs.
  • Develop strategies and policies to achieve program goals and enhance objectives.
  • Manage human, financial, and other resources with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Translate constituent needs into customized programs that sustain alumni relations.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships to support UCLA's mission, particularly in fundraising and donor engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years of professional experience in alumni engagement, program management, strategic planning, or related fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of UCLA's strategic plans, vision, goals, and achievements in Alumni Affairs.
  • Advanced knowledge of current affairs in higher education and the ability to understand the changing landscape.
  • Thorough knowledge of alumni and key constituencies, with skills to create and implement innovative programs.
  • Strong supervisory skills to hire, train, oversee, and evaluate staff, ensuring high-quality work within time and budget constraints.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to advocate for and represent UCLA and Alumni Affairs effectively.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and political acumen skills.
  • Skills to create and implement strategic communications and marketing plans.
  • Knowledge of market research and current marketing trends, including digital strategies.
  • Ability to build consensus among team members and advise management on communications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and experience with web and new media technology.
  • Mature judgment and integrity, with the ability to handle sensitive matters discreetly.
