About the position

The Chief of Staff and Associate Dean for Academic Planning (COS-AD) at the University of Chicago's Social Sciences Division plays a pivotal leadership role in developing and implementing strategic planning processes for academic programs. This position is responsible for ensuring the effective operationalization of the Division's strategic plans, managing senior director-level staff, and collaborating with various academic leaders to advance the Division's mission. The COS-AD must demonstrate exemplary leadership, professionalism, and the ability to navigate complex dynamics while maintaining confidentiality and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high impact, mission driven strategies for the long-term future growth and vitality of the Division
  • Work closely with the Dean, deputy deans, associate deans, department chairs, and other academic leadership to ensure successful planning and activities
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with impeccable follow-up and execution
  • Develop and maintain networks with peers and leaders across the University
  • Contribute to research, analysis, and reporting on matters related to the academic mission
  • Represent the Dean and the Division on various working groups and committees
  • Develop and implement thoughtful change management and communication plans
  • Provide informed recommendations to the Dean on academic planning issues
  • Ensure new academic initiatives are well-positioned for success
  • Oversee the preparation of and present analyses and reports.

Requirements

  • Minimum college or university degree in a related field
  • 10+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding accomplishment in a complex, higher education environment
  • Held positions of increasing responsibility and leadership in planning and communication
  • Superior project management and time management skills
  • Ability to anticipate and think creatively to address complex needs
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
