About the position

The Chief of Staff at Rutgers University-Camden will serve as a key advisor to the Chancellor, managing the Office of the Chancellor and advancing the leadership agenda through strategic planning and collaboration with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and students. This role involves overseeing administrative and operational activities, ensuring effective decision-making, and managing key initiatives and campus goals. The Chief of Staff will also supervise administrative staff and develop a productive support team within the Chancellor's Office.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a confidential advisor to the Chancellor.
  • Assist in managing the Office of the Chancellor and advancing the leadership agenda.
  • Plan and direct administrative and operational activities on behalf of the Chancellor.
  • Organize and prioritize critical issues and manage day-to-day logistics for the Chancellor.
  • Make decisions on behalf of the Chancellor while aligning with the university's strategy and mission.
  • Oversee strategic development and implementation of the Chancellor's initiatives and campus goals.
  • Supervise key administrative staff in the Chancellor's Office and develop an effective support team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of eight to ten years professional experience in higher education administration required.
  • Excellent oral, writing, and overall communication skills required.
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies required.
  • Proven ability to serve executive leadership in a confidential manner.
  • Experience managing complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's, JD, or PhD strongly preferred.
  • Project management certification desirable.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of higher education operations strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with all Rutgers campuses and policies preferred.
