About the position

The Chief of Staff & Director of Strategic Initiatives (COS-DSI) at Edward Waters University serves as a key member of the President's Executive Cabinet, providing leadership and operational oversight of the Office of the President. This role involves managing linkages between the President and the University's senior administrative officers, ensuring responsiveness to Presidential initiatives and priorities. The COS-DSI is responsible for overseeing ongoing projects, maximizing administrative performance, and supporting the President in executing complex executive duties related to policy and program development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership and operational oversight of the Office of the President.
  • Assist in managing linkages between the President and the University's Vice Presidents and other senior administrative officers.
  • Maintain oversight for ongoing projects supporting the President's agenda.
  • Ensure effectiveness and timely completion of essential functions and tasks according to planned objectives.
  • Provide leadership for the optimization of organizational processes responsive to the needs of the University.
  • Assist the President in planning and executing complex executive and administrative duties.
  • Manage and advise the President on day-to-day operations of the University.
  • Support the President in creating executive-level communications including briefing papers and presentations.
  • Cultivate and maintain professional contacts with other higher education institutions and organizations.
  • Plan and manage budgets for functional areas at the direction of the President.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and demonstrated experience in an administrative management position.
  • Five to eight years of supervisory and management experience in higher education or a complex working environment.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, problem solving, and change management.
  • Prior high-level project management experience with a focus on executive communications.
  • Successful mid-to-senior level management experience in a four-year institution of higher education.
  • Experience in overseeing and tracking project workflow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Academic or Professional doctorate (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., J.D.) degree from a regionally accredited university is preferred.
  • 7 to 10 plus years of relevant work experience in higher education as a senior administrative officer.
