About the position

The Chief of Staff position at PG&E's Electric Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering department is a pivotal role that encompasses strategic planning, business management, and operational oversight. This position is designed to support the Vice President of Electric T&D Engineering by leading various initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. The Chief of Staff will be responsible for overseeing complex projects and key initiatives, ensuring that all activities align with PG&E's mission and vision. This includes the development and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) and the Lean Operating System, which are essential for measuring performance and fostering a culture of efficiency within the organization. In this hybrid role, the Chief of Staff will work both remotely and on-site in Oakland, California, depending on business needs. The position requires a proactive approach to managing communications, performance measurement, and employee engagement programs. The Chief of Staff will also play a crucial role in planning and coordinating meetings, activities, and communications for the Vice President, representing the officer in various strategic planning processes and initiatives. The responsibilities extend to collaborating with various leaders across the organization to develop and review budgetary requirements, ensuring that all strategic planning and business management processes are effectively executed. The Chief of Staff will also be tasked with researching and analyzing inquiries and issues, providing recommendations to support decision-making processes. This role demands a strategic mindset, strong leadership qualities, and the ability to influence and inspire others while maintaining a high level of customer service and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead KPI development and Lean Operating System implementation in collaboration with the VP's Direct Reports.
  • Organize and facilitate DORs, WORs, and MORs to ensure effectiveness of reviews.
  • Develop and shape content for various executive forums to ensure execution of key strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate, analyze, and determine action plans to address improvement opportunities across the organization.
  • Manage coordination of employee engagement programs and co-worker development initiatives.
  • Take on ad hoc projects to support the organization's needs with minimal supervision.
  • Monitor and ensure alignment of strategic planning and business management processes with PG&E's mission and vision.
  • Collaborate with officers, managers, and leaders to develop and review budgetary requirements.
  • Establish and support governance, risk, and compliance processes for operational plans and resource administration.
  • Plan, organize, and support various meetings, activities, and communications for vice presidents and managers.
  • Research, analyze, and respond to inquiries and issues, developing recommendations to support decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years of experience in business or job-related fields.
  • Experience in Resource Planning or related fields.
  • Experience in risk management, Utility Industry, or related fields.
  • Experience in Operational Planning.
  • Strong process understanding.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong ability to persuade and influence while being diplomatic.
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels in the organization.
  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Competency in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
  • Competency in making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Competency in providing direction, delegating, and removing obstacles to get work done.
