About the position

The Director, Chief of Staff (CoS) for Product Advancement at Bentley Systems plays a pivotal role as a key partner and direct report to the Chief Product Officer (CPO). This position is essential for enhancing the success of the Product organization both externally and internally, fostering a strong culture within the team. The CoS is tasked with setting and managing Bentley's Product Advancement strategy, inspiring and influencing team members towards action, and ensuring effective communication flows to and from the CPO. The role requires the CoS to ensure that the team operates in harmony to achieve targeted goals and fulfill their responsibilities effectively. In this capacity, the CoS will lead organizational and executive rhythms, oversee cross-company special projects, and drive the operations of the executive Product Advancement Group team. The ideal candidate must possess a blend of leadership, influence, project management, strategic planning, and people management skills, along with the ability to contribute individually. The successful incumbent will thrive under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to ambiguity and uncertainty. The Chief of Staff will provide oversight to the Bentley Product Advancement leadership team, identify opportunities for improvement, participate in strategic discussions, lead key initiatives, and facilitate business execution. This role is crucial for moving the business forward by enabling sound decision-making and fostering a culture of accountability. Success in this role will be measured by the trust and respect earned from the CPO, allowing them to focus on critical company priorities while the CoS drives a cohesive and accountable Product Advancement leadership team. The effectiveness of the CoS will be evaluated based on the quality of work produced and the impact created through influencing others.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical thought-partner and trusted advisor to the CPO and Product Advancement leadership team.
  • Support the CPO in running a high functioning Senior Leadership Team by building and managing an operational rhythm calendar.
  • Guide the process of defining, following up, and reflecting on OKRs for initiatives across Product Advancement.
  • Act as a proxy to the CPO in designated meetings to maximize bandwidth.
  • Work alongside multiple business leaders to determine priorities, opportunities, and risks, supporting change management and continuous improvement.
  • Drive people/talent development initiatives in conjunction with the Business Unit's Colleague Success Business Partner.
  • Develop and cultivate cross-organizational stakeholder relationships to amplify alignment with critical internal partners.
  • Partner with Finance to define clear visibility into alignment model (budget) and track hiring pipeline against available budget.
  • Represent Product Advancement in Merger and Acquisition activities, including due diligence and integration planning and execution.
  • Provide consultation and advice around operational excellence, headcount, and resource planning.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years work experience with exposure to leadership teams.
  • Experience in product development process definition and refinement.
  • Knowledge of business planning and approval processes.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Facilitation of executive leadership workshops.
  • Development and expansion of performance management frameworks, preferably OKRs.
  • Ability to challenge leadership with new operational management strategies.
  • Adaptability to various situations, business needs, initiatives, and technologies.
  • Solid project management experience, including leading matrixed and inter-departmental initiatives.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Courageous problem-solving skills and resilience to pressure.
