About the position

The Chief of Staff Admin Mgr 2 at the University of Minnesota's School of Music is a key administrative role that supports the Director and enhances the school's mission through strategic planning, financial management, and oversight of operations. This position requires a highly skilled administrator to manage resources, implement policies, and facilitate communication among faculty, staff, and external partners. The Chief of Staff will also oversee accreditation processes and student services operations, ensuring alignment with the school's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Set strategic planning priorities in coordination with the Director to optimize SOM resources.
  • Support the development of new initiatives and realignment of existing programs and projects.
  • Serve as a liaison for the Director, faculty, staff, and students with external entities.
  • Manage and coordinate SOM external reviews, including Accreditation Reviews and Academic Program Reviews.
  • Provide financial oversight of Ted Mann Concert Hall operations and budgeting.
  • Supervise civil service, labor represented, and P&A personnel, including performance assessments and staff management.
  • Responsible for daily operations, including policy development and implementation.
  • Manage fiscal activities including budgeting, managing expenditures, and forecasting.
  • Oversee Student Services operations and lead annual curriculum planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Prior oversight of a small department or cross-disciplinary team within a large institution.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience in effective fiscal planning, management, and budgeting.
  • Project management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, students, and administrators at a higher education institution.
  • Working knowledge of the academic fields of music or related disciplines.
