About the position

As the Chief of Staff for Strategic Advisory & Lifecycle Resiliency Services (SALRS) at Black & Veatch, you will serve as a key executive advisor to the President of SALRS. This role is pivotal in executing operational excellence and driving key strategic objectives, particularly in sales performance. You will be responsible for enhancing the effectiveness of the President and ensuring that the SALRS organization operates at a high level of efficiency. Your duties will include supporting the SALRS Leadership Team in achieving their objectives, ensuring that leadership processes and governance are well-defined and communicated, and facilitating effective information sharing and decision-making. In this position, you will build partnerships across the business, advocating for SALRS objectives and strategies within the broader organization. You will need to anticipate challenges that require immediate attention and diplomacy, providing leadership that enhances time management and the flow of information to and from the SALRS President. Your role will also involve preparing the President for meetings and ensuring they are well-informed and rarely surprised. Key responsibilities include identifying opportunities for continuous improvement based on industry best practices, executing strategic initiatives tied to SALRS growth, and serving as a proxy for the President in various meetings. You will oversee communications, support the President in synthesizing insights from meetings, and engage proactively in business discussions. Additionally, you will collaborate with HR to address workforce and organizational matters, support the development of SALRS strategy, and coordinate with other Chief of Staffs across the company. This role requires a strong focus on leadership development, anticipating workforce needs, and ensuring compliance with company policies. You will also be responsible for managing the budget related to Chief of Staff duties and supervising the work of others, including hiring and pay administration.

Responsibilities

  • Execute operational excellence with a focus on driving key strategic objectives including sales performance to goals.
  • Expand the bandwidth and effectiveness of the President and ensure that the SALRS organization is highly effective.
  • Support and facilitate the SALRS Leadership Team objectives.
  • Ensure that SALRS leadership is best in class, with defined and effective processes and governance.
  • Build partnerships across the business and advocate for SALRS objectives and strategy.
  • Anticipate challenges that require diplomacy and immediate attention.
  • Provide leadership that influences better time management and flow of information to and from the SALRS President.
  • Prepare the President for meetings and ensure they are rarely surprised.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for continuous improvements based on leading practices across the consulting industry.
  • Execute strategic initiatives tied to SALRS growth strategy, including innovation workshops and critical growth campaigns.
  • Serve as an extension of or proxy for the SALRS President in various meetings and activities.
  • Prioritize the President's time, travel, and schedule in coordination with the Executive Assistant.
  • Oversee and manage communications in coordination with internal and external teams.
  • Support the President in meetings by synthesizing key insights and generating actionable outcomes.
  • Engage productively in business discussions and cultivate partnering relationships with management.
  • Consult and provide solutions related to workforce and organizational matters in partnership with HR.
  • Support the preparation of Executive Leadership Team presentations in conjunction with finance, strategy, and marketing.
  • Develop relationships and coordinate with Chief of Staffs in other sectors and regions.
  • Work closely with SALRS Leadership Team and HR to align professional development for emerging leaders.
  • Anticipate workforce needs and develop forward-thinking solutions based on workforce analytics.
  • Support leaders in building and maintaining high-performing teams in conjunction with HR and Corporate Org Effectiveness groups.
  • Develop quarterly Leadership Team strategy meetings with SALRS Business Leaders.
  • Ensure leadership is prepared for external and internal client meetings.
  • Coordinate IT efforts in support of the business.
  • Ensure compliance with required training and company policies among SALRS professionals.
  • Design and coordinate annual Leadership off-site team alignment/strategy sessions.
  • Drive a monthly review of all SALRS key activities, KPIs, and planned deliverables.
  • Partner with Finance on budget and financial performance oversight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience.
  • Client services experience.
  • 12-15+ years of business experience progressing through leadership roles and assignments that provide broad multi-functional capability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Consulting, PM or commercial leadership role experience.
  • Supervisory experience or oversight of project teams.
  • Degree in business, economics, finance or engineering preferred.
