About the position

Lumen is seeking a Director, Chief of Staff for Strategic Pursuits, a pivotal role designed to support the Senior Vice President (SVP) in executing strategic priorities. This position is essential for ensuring that the SVP can focus on key objectives while streamlining activities across the organization. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the Executive Assistant to manage the SVP's time effectively and align it with the organization's priorities. This role is critical to the operational function of the Lumen Mid Market and Strategic Pursuits leadership team, especially as the company undergoes significant transformation. In this role, the Chief of Staff will serve as a critical advisor to the SVP and the leadership team, helping to progress key objectives and identify challenges. The individual will partner with cross-functional leadership teams to create the annual strategy and plan, develop organizational goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and success metrics, and ensure that strategy presentations are consistently updated. The Chief of Staff will also be responsible for monitoring business objectives, managing the annual budget, and defining meeting agendas for various staff meetings, including town halls and operational reviews. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will ensure that the executive is well-prepared for all significant meetings, manage necessary preparation calls, and consolidate prep information into a digestible format. The role involves developing key messages and creating presentations on behalf of the senior executive, representing the leadership's priorities across the organization. The Chief of Staff will also collaborate with HR on workforce planning and lead diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB) initiatives. This position will drive critical cross-functional initiatives and provide oversight for various projects across the senior leadership team, ensuring alignment and effective communication throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical advisor to the SVP of Mid Markets and Strategic Pursuits and the leadership team in progressing key objectives and solving challenges.
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership teams to create the annual strategy and plan, developing organizational goals, KPIs, and success metrics.
  • Maintain and update strategy presentations to ensure visibility of business objectives.
  • Manage the annual budget for the department.
  • Define and execute meeting agendas for direct and extended staff meetings, including town halls and operational reviews.
  • Prepare the executive for all external and large internal meetings, managing necessary prep calls and consolidating prep information.
  • Develop key messages and create presentations on behalf of the senior executive, communicating leadership priorities across the organization.
  • Collaborate with HR on workforce planning, location strategy, and organizational structure management.
  • Lead diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives for the organization.
  • Manage and drive critical cross-functional initiatives, including CEO Change Imperatives and Stop List.
  • Provide oversight and create linkages for cross-functional projects and initiatives across the senior leadership team.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of success in an operational role where executive priorities are translated into actionable plans.
  • Strong executive presence and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex stakeholder management situations.
  • Attention to detail across a broad range of contexts and topics.
  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience in finance, business transformation, and/or management consulting is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role with a Bachelor's degree.
