About the position

This pivotal role serves as the Chief of Staff to GRAIL's CEO, working in close collaboration with the company's leadership team to drive strategic initiatives and ensure seamless executive operations. This hybrid position requires an onsite presence in Menlo Park, CA, three days a week, including Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering the opportunity to be deeply integrated into GRAIL's dynamic and innovative environment. The Chief of Staff will act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, providing strategic counsel and support on critical business decisions. This includes managing the CEO's office, prioritizing topics, preparing briefing materials, and coordinating high-level meetings. The role also involves managing weekly executive staff meetings, setting the agenda, providing insights and analysis to inform strategic conversations, and tracking follow-through to increase accountability. In addition, the Chief of Staff will support key strategic initiatives, including board materials, investor presentations, capital fundraising, town hall presentations, leadership retreats, and annual planning. The position requires driving best practices, communication, and coordination between executives to enable effective collaboration across the organization. The Chief of Staff will work cross-functionally with departmental leaders and stakeholders to kick-off, actionize, and provide support across key company initiatives. Furthermore, overseeing the goal-setting process, working with the management team to set, align, and track company goals is a critical responsibility. The role also includes onboarding key company hires, ensuring that they have the context and support needed to successfully ramp up and perform their duties.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Biotechnology or related field.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in consulting, strategic finance, business operations, or other rigorous roles requiring a blend of analytical and strategic skills.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in biotechnology, healthcare, or related industries.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable interacting with senior leaders, external partners, and staff at all levels.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a large portfolio of strategic initiatives and projects in a cross-functional environment on tight deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations and has a bias for action, high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in Chief of Staff or roles working closely with senior management.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or equivalent).
  • 15+ years of experience in consulting, strategic finance, business operations, or other rigorous roles.
