About the position

The Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority provides confidential and strategic support to the CEO. This role involves managing the administrative operations of the Executive Office, overseeing strategic business initiatives, and serving as a liaison with various stakeholders. The CoS will also be responsible for preparing and monitoring the Office budget, supervising administrative staff, and ensuring the CEO is well-prepared for meetings and events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential and trusted organizational and strategic support to the CEO.
  • Manage the administrative operations of the Executive Office, including budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Serve as a liaison with staff, executives, and senior leaders regarding project updates and proposals.
  • Oversee strategic business initiatives from development through execution under senior leadership guidance.
  • Assist executives in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation.
  • Attend meetings and represent the CEO in his/her absence, ensuring the CEO is prepared for such events.
  • Collaborate with senior managers and department leaders on daily operations and administrative tasks.
  • Develop relationships with employees to enhance operational efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Monitor various issues, projects, and programs on behalf of the Executive Office.
  • Prepare and monitor the budget for the Executive Office, including procurement actions.

Requirements

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in a business management or executive role.
  • Master's degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
  • Ability to perform complex analyses of data and information, make recommendations, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and ability to manage operations and programs of subordinate departments.
  • Expertise in planning and leading strategic initiatives.
  • Expertise in data analysis and budget management.
  • Knowledge of contracts and operating permits, with the ability to research and utilize information in Airports Authority guidelines.
  • Effective communication skills, with an emphasis on negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in computer hardware and modern office suite software, particularly spreadsheet software.

Nice-to-haves

  • A master's degree in Personnel Administration, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working in an airport, airline, or in airline support operations.
