The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a Chief of Staff to join their team. This role is pivotal in supporting the Executive Director and senior leadership in managing operations, facilitating communication, and providing strategic support to ensure the center's strategic goals are met. The center is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the people of Virginia and the nation through leadership development, public policy research, and service. The Chief of Staff will be expected to operate independently while carrying out a variety of responsibilities that are crucial for the center's success. In the realm of strategic planning and execution, the Chief of Staff will partner with the leadership team to set strategic priorities, track the progress of initiatives, and ensure that projects remain on schedule. This includes identifying and addressing any potential challenges or opportunities that may arise. Operational management is another key responsibility, which involves managing the schedules of leadership team members, prioritizing tasks, preparing for meetings, and overseeing daily operations. The Chief of Staff will also play a significant role in budget and finance, partnering with leadership to develop the annual budget and conducting financial reporting and analysis to ensure effective management of the organization's financial resources. Communication and stakeholder management are essential, as the Chief of Staff will serve as a liaison between the Executive Director and both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring message consistency and building strong relationships with board members and other key individuals. Leadership and team development are also critical components of this role, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Chief of Staff will be expected to conduct research, gather data, and provide analysis to support decision-making, manage special projects, and act as a problem solver during crises. Governance and compliance responsibilities include adhering to governance standards and helping to implement organizational policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities may involve assisting in budget management, planning events, meetings, and travel arrangements.
