About the position

The Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital is responsible for managing the hospital to ensure high-quality veterinary care, exceptional client service, and maximum productivity of the veterinary medical team. This role involves advocating for pets, building relationships with clients, and educating both clients and hospital associates on pet health. The Chief of Staff collaborates with the Practice Manager to enhance the hospital's operational effectiveness and improve both medical quality and business performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the hospital to ensure high-quality veterinary care and exceptional client service.
  • Partner with the Practice Manager to operate an effective veterinary medical team.
  • Train associates on client service and educate them about pet health needs.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks to improve medical care delivery.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and development of hospital associates.
  • Create and maintain veterinarians' schedules to meet client needs.
  • Act as a communications liaison among associates, clients, and leadership.
  • Develop annual planning and budgeting for the hospital in partnership with the Practice Manager.
  • Participate in market-level teams and initiatives to achieve business goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all practice policies and local, state, and federal laws.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.
  • Two years clinical experience required.
  • 1-3 years coaching and developing associate doctors required.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to create order from chaos.
  • Proven surgical skills and ability to perform basic surgeries.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate problems into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a leadership role within a veterinary practice.
  • Familiarity with Banfield protocols and practices.
  • Knowledge of veterinary medical equipment and software.
