About the position

The Chief of Staff position at Bank Street College of Education is a pivotal role within the Bank Street Education Center (the Ed Center), which is dedicated to addressing and disrupting inequities in school systems through strategic partnerships and initiatives. This position is designed to support the Vice President of the Ed Center and collaborate with senior leaders to enhance the operational effectiveness and strategic direction of the division. The Chief of Staff will play a crucial role in fostering an organizational culture that promotes staff development, effective communication, and the implementation of the division's racial equity action plan. This in-person role is based in New York City and requires a strong commitment to the Ed Center's mission and values. In this role, the Chief of Staff will engage with various stakeholders, including senior leaders and staff members, to ensure that the division's initiatives align with the broader strategic goals of the College. Responsibilities include project management of key workflows, supporting internal operational systems, and promoting collaboration across the division. The Chief of Staff will also be involved in business development efforts, including strategic planning and partnership design, while ensuring that the Ed Center's impact data is effectively collected and analyzed to inform decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in education or nonprofit organizations, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and engage in conversations around race, equity, and identity. This role requires a reflective learner's stance and a commitment to fostering a culturally responsive environment that supports both child and adult development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership support to the Vice President in areas such as organizational culture, staff development, communications, and implementation strategy.
  • Monitor the implementation of the division's racial equity action plan in partnership with the Vice President and senior leadership.
  • Project manage emerging workflows and special projects aligned with key priorities and initiatives within the division.
  • Engage Executive Directors in strategic planning for the Ed Center, supporting initiatives that align with the College's broader strategic plan.
  • Partner with senior leaders to meet project milestones, supporting internal processes and program implementation.
  • Maintain and revise internal operational systems for knowledge management, budgeting, and project management.
  • Ensure coherence of design approaches and operational processes across projects.
  • Promote internal collaboration and foster a positive culture through divisional retreats and learning experiences.
  • Support business development efforts, including strategic planning and partnership design.
  • Collect, synthesize, and analyze impact data to further the strategic analytical vision.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education or related field preferred; Bachelor's degree or comparable experience required.
  • At least three years of management experience.
  • Ability to design and manage complex projects independently.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various levels of an organization, experienced educators, and district teams.
  • Comfort with Google Suite tools and Slack for team collaboration.
  • Flexibility in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Comfort engaging in conversations around race, equity, and identity.
  • At least five years of work experience in education and/or nonprofit organizations.
