About the position

The Chief of Staff (CoS) at Pennsylvania Voice will play a pivotal role in supporting the Executive Director and the leadership team. This position is designed for a strategic thinker who can enhance organizational operations, facilitate communication, and ensure that the organization runs smoothly. The CoS will be responsible for managing projects, developing staff, and aligning the organization’s strategic goals with its day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen and develop the organization by understanding its mission, operations, structure, and culture.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly and propose new systems and processes as needed.
  • Act as the strategic plan project manager, ensuring alignment with the work plan and goals.
  • Create professional development and leadership training for staff and partner organizations.
  • Plan staff retreats and identify professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Represent the Executive Director at internal and external meetings as needed.
  • Serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor to the Executive Director.
  • Devise and execute special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Manage key projects delegated by the Executive Director and ensure timely information flow.
  • In partnership with HR, manage the hiring process for leadership roles reporting to the Executive Director.
  • Act as a stand-in for leadership team members during absences.
  • Manage leadership team meetings, including scheduling and tracking progress toward goals.
  • Oversee cross-departmental projects and cultivate consensus on organizational goals.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of programs and organizing experience and 1-3 years in organizational leadership, preferably in nonprofit settings.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in contributing to the strategic direction of a growing organization.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with varied stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing top-notch leaders.
  • High emotional intelligence and competency in giving and receiving feedback.
  • Ability to facilitate gatherings with diverse participants.
  • Proven experience building consensus and coordinating shared interests.
  • Ability to analyze situations with a racial justice lens.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in civic engagement or voting rights advocacy.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania's political landscape and community organizations.
