About the position

The Chief of Staff serves as a key partner to the Vice Chancellor & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at UCLA, playing a vital role in advising and representing the CFO in various discussions and decision-making processes. This position is integral to managing priorities, facilitating communication, and providing analytical support on significant campus projects. The Chief of Staff is responsible for maintaining confidentiality and exercising independent judgment while engaging with diverse campus constituencies.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Vice Chancellor & CFO on university activities and policies.
  • Represent the CFO in discussions with campus senior leadership.
  • Make decisions on behalf of the Vice Chancellor & CFO.
  • Direct and manage the assignment of action items to senior administrators.
  • Help manage the Vice Chancellor & CFO's priorities and workload.
  • Provide analytical support and leadership on important campus projects.
  • Facilitate internal communication and engagement with various campus constituencies.

Requirements

  • At least twelve (12) years of high-level administration experience advising senior management or overseeing complex programs and projects.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in management, supervisory, or leadership positions.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal constraints and opportunities for higher education in California and federal programs.
  • Excellent ability to establish mission and goals at the macro-level and lead subordinate management.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources, and risk management planning.
  • Effective communication skills, including writing clear reports and policies.
  • Demonstrated management ability to direct and supervise professional and staff positions.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to research, collect, process, and interpret financial and budgetary data.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the University of California Office of the President and campus organizational structures.
  • Master's degree or professional degree in a relevant discipline.
