About the position

The Area Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital plays a crucial role in leading, developing, and managing associate veterinarians within their assigned hospitals. This position is essential for ensuring that Banfield can attract, develop, engage, and retain veterinarians who are committed to delivering high-quality care and meeting the expected performance measures of the hospital. The Area Chief of Staff is responsible for driving the culture of quality care by the veterinary provider team, which includes Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT), and Veterinary Assistants (VA). This role emphasizes the importance of consistent care for every pet, aligning with Banfield's six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care. In this position, the Area Chief of Staff will partner with the Practice Manager, if applicable, to foster a culture of quality and safety at the hospital level. This includes performing regular hospital visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and Banfield's quality benchmarks. The Area Chief of Staff will also be responsible for developing, coaching, and managing associate veterinarians, ensuring they possess the necessary technical and functional skills to deliver outstanding medical care. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians, as well as mentoring them to ensure a smooth transition into their roles. The Area Chief of Staff will also focus on driving veterinary quality KPIs, supporting hospital performance expectations, and engaging in local, state, and national veterinary organizations to enhance Banfield's brand reputation. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of medical equipment and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Overall, the Area Chief of Staff is a pivotal figure in promoting a culture of quality care and operational excellence within Banfield's veterinary practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage associate veterinarians in assigned hospitals.
  • Drive a culture of quality and safety at the hospital level.
  • Perform regular hospital visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Develop, coach, and manage associate veterinarians on necessary skills for success.
  • Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians.
  • Deliver on veterinary quality KPIs to support hospital performance expectations.
  • Identify and develop future veterinary talent for leadership roles.
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and functionality in assigned hospitals.
  • Participate in veterinary organizations to promote Banfield's brand reputation.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.
  • 3 years experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice.
  • Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries and use standard medical instruments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate problems into practical solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks under distracting conditions.
