About the position

The Chief of Staff at UCLA will serve as a key partner to the Vice Chancellor & Chief Financial Officer (CFO), providing strategic advice and representation in discussions with senior leadership. This role involves managing priorities, directing action items, and facilitating communication across various campus constituencies. The Chief of Staff will also provide analytical support on important projects, ensuring the effective implementation of initiatives within the Vice Chancellor's Office.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Vice Chancellor & CFO on university activities and operational issues.
  • Represent the CFO in discussions with campus senior leadership.
  • Make decisions on behalf of the Vice Chancellor & CFO.
  • Direct and manage the assignment of action items to senior administrators.
  • Help manage the Vice Chancellor & CFO's priorities and workload.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Facilitate internal communication and engagement with campus constituencies.
  • Provide analytical support and leadership on various projects.

Requirements

  • At least twelve (12) years of high-level administration experience advising senior management or overseeing complex programs.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in management, supervisory, or leadership positions.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal constraints and opportunities for higher education in California and federal programs.
  • Excellent ability to establish mission and goals at the macro-level and lead subordinate management.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis, reporting techniques, human resources, and risk management planning.
  • Effective communication skills, including writing clear reports and policies.
  • Demonstrated management ability to direct and supervise professional and staff positions.
  • Ability to organize tasks and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to research, collect, process, and interpret financial and budgetary data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the University of California Office of the President and campus organizational structures.
  • Master's degree or professional degree in a relevant discipline.
